PARENTING: Ditching a baby Dummy.
This is a question I get asked all the time and like many things in Parenting, there is no definitive answer!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am certainly not against dummies and they can be a godsend for babies who are particularly sucky and those with sensitive tummies in the early days. If we are talking baby babies, then I prefer to get rid of the dummy in advance of 4 months so that once sleep cycles start to develop more, they don’t pose any issues to baby’s sleep.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some babies love a dummy and can have a dummy all the way through their first few years and it doesn’t cause any sort of issues for their sleep, other babies have dummies and once it starts to fall out, they can start waking hourly if not more, those are the babies I see lots of!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As with everything, it seems to be working then that’s great, but if it’s not and you’re experiencing;
1.Frequent night waking
2.Early morning waking
3.Short naps
....then it could be time to get rid!

The only way to really get rid of a dummy is to go cold turkey. There are some babies who can still have it during the day time when awake and not for sleep, but often it just needs to go completely. It takes a few days for baby to get used to their new way of falling asleep, but rest assured that unless the dummy has been masking any reflux or tummy issues, your little one should get if of it fairly easily.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How old was your little one when you ditched the dummy? Did it ever pose a problem to their sleep?
Lets discuss in the comment session.
