Star Jane McDonald loses her life partner Ed Rothe.

Heartbreaking  as star Jane McDonald has confirmed the sad passing of her life partner Ed Rothe.

The musician and TV favourite, 58, revealed the sad news that Ed died from lung cancer on March 26 in a heartbreaking Twitter post.

Jane told that a funeral for her beloved Ed - who was the former drummer of the 1960's band The Searchers - took place today and praised the NHS staff who took care of him at The Wakefield Hospice in the months before his death.

The first Tweet, accompanied by a selfie of Jane and Ed, read: "Announcement 1/2: It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Jane’s beloved long term partner, Ed, passed away on Friday 26th March.

"He had been battling lung cancer for the last few months. We would like to thank everyone for all their help and support..."

Shortly after another message was sent out, that said: "Announcement 2/2: ...during this very difficult time, especially the NHS staff and the wonderful team at The Wakefield Hospice.

"The funeral took place earlier today and we would please ask for your kindness in observing Jane’s privacy for her and Ed’s family at this sad time."

Rest in peace, Ed. Jane, we are sorry for your loss.
